Every Independence Day we celebrate our freedom as a nation.

But do you have freedom in your own life – freedom of choice?

Freedom is defined as the power to exercise choice and make decisions without constraint from within or without; exemption from external control; the power to determine action without restraint.

Choice is defined as the right, power or opportunity to decide.

Archibald MacLeish, an American Poet asks, “What is freedom?  Freedom is the right to choose: the right to create for oneself the alternatives of choice.”

So do you have this privilege (or right as Mr. MacLeish states) – the freedom to choose – in your life?

My life is blessed because I DO have freedom of choice.  This freedom to choose is more important to me than the financial rewards that come from having my own home based business.

“Freedom of choice is more to be treasured than any possession earth can give.”  David O. McKay

There are so many simple ways to define these freedoms for myself.
• Getting up when I choose to awaken and not when an alarm clock (aka a boss) dictates that I must.
• And likewise, determining when I’ll go to bed as there is never a need for me to rise before the sun.
• Deciding if I’ll work this day, or not.  I can pick any days of the week to be my ‘weekend,’ I am not restricted to the days of a calendar.
• Deciding the hours in a day that I’ll work. I am not restricted to a 9 to 5 routine. I work in the morning, than am able to enjoy the day with my preschooler and then back to work in the evening.
• Being able to select days of the week or times of the day when I run my errands so that I don’t have to fight the crowds.
• Determining how many hours I’ll work in a day rather than having a boss tell me I must put in my 8 hours.  Some days I may choose to work only one hour and I don’t have to feel guilty about it, nor be docked any pay for not showing up on time or leaving early.
• Being able to be spontaneous.  If something else arises, I can set aside my work, to come back to it when it is more convenient for me.

I hope you are able to seek and enjoy freedom in your own life. Do you have the freedom of choice?  If not, reassess your life goals and decide if it’s time to be your own boss and decide for yourself what choices you’ll make.
