I just read a wonderful book, “The Oracle’s Secret: An Inspiring Fable About Achieving Your Dreams” by Anthony Fernando.
It uses the story of a young boy after his dream to teach us ‘Lessons of Wisdom.’ Many of the lessons are things we have heard before, such as
“Show gratitude for what is good in your life.”
“You must create a plan”
“You must act on that plan.”
“Don’t focus on the problems but rather the solutions.”
But the most important (and enlightening) piece of the fable for me was when he teaches that a DREAM is not lost forever just because a PLAN didn’t work out. He teaches us how to clearly define the dream and separately define the plan. Yes, they go together, hand in hand, but the dream doesn’t die when the plan fails. Which is often the first reaction that many of us have, I know I have.
We feel ALL is lost when things don’t work out like we planned. We get frustrated and discouraged, especially if we DID put in the action steps to work the plan and did all we thought we were supposed to do in order to achieve the goal. He encourages us to simply rework the PLAN – and never give up on the DREAM.
And then secondly, he demonstrates that the fulfillment of the dream may not come the way you expect it to. Plan your work, then work your Plan, then let it go to fulfill itself in its own way and in its own time. We may actually miss the accomplishment of the dream if we solely focus on the specific details of the plan. The achievement of the dream may come in through the back door, so don’t get so fixated only on the front door.
This reminded me of one of my dreams a few years ago. While at our company convention, I had aspired to WIN one of the original candle jars that our company produced years ago – with the signatures of all the owners. My DREAM was to have the jar. My PLAN was that my raffle ticket would be the winning number. Well, it didn’t happen, they never called my number.
Because I was so focused on the belief that the only way to have the jar was to win the jar in the raffle, I had assumed my dream had died. But I just kept thinking, “That CAN’T be the end of it. I wanted that so badly.” So guess what … I left that convention WITH the jar of my dreams. I didn’t win it, the plan didn’t work. But I was given the jar by my sponsors, who HAD won the jar in the raffle (unbeknown to me). So the achievement of my dream came in through the back door.
I encourage you to get this 100 page book that is packed with powerful information about how to achieve your dreams. Do the Lessons. Be inspired! Make it happen.
