James Arthur Ray mentions, in his “Harmonic Wealth” book, the socioeconomic studies that correlate income levels with the reading materials in the home. I found this quite interesting and was delighted by the reassurance that I am an avid reader, of quality materials.

Low-income households tend to have a National Enquirer or the Bible.
Middle-income households tend to have a few books by the toilet, along with some gossip magazines in the family room.
High-income households – you know what they have … a library. The most prized room in the home.

So does socioeconomic status bring the library, or does the library bring the status?
Hmmm.

“Books are the legacies that a great genius leaves to mankind, which are delivered down from generation to generation as presents to the posterity of those who are yet unborn.” ~ Joseph Addison ~

Ray believes that “What ever you are putting into your mind on a consistent basis is driving your thoughts, feelings, emotions, and actions. If you’re putting garbage or limiting energy into your mind, you’re going to produce limiting energy and outcomes.” What are you feeding your mind?

I have also heard Michael Clouse reference the extreme importance of his library. He indicates that the time to upgrade your home is when you have outgrown your present library. The number of books you have is the determining factor behind how big a house you need.

Ray also states that “poor isn’t just about money or education, but about a state of mind.” It’s about your willingness (or lack thereof) to increase your knowledge, thus increasing your ability to improve your life circumstances.

He believes “there are only two things you can do with your brainpower as it relates to time: Spend it or invest it. Time spent (or wasted) is gone forever. Invested time (in the form of learning) creates a lifetime annuity.”

“The failure to read good books both enfeebles the vision and strengthens our most fatal tendency–the belief that the here and now is all there is.” ~ Allan Bloom ~
