No doubt these are difficult times for some. I see some giving up their home business. During times like this there may be challenges, road blocks. But why do some continue on and others give it up? I think it is hugely a result of how powerfully they have subscribed to their “WHY.”
Your “why” is simply your reason for doing the business. What is it that you want to be, have, or achieve? Yet finding and committing to your “why” is not so simple. It requires you to dig deep to find something powerful and compelling. Why are you going to invest time, money, and energies into a business that may result in sacrifice and a rearranging of priorities to make it work? WHY?
It’s personal to each of us. My “why” can’t be your “why.” It has to be irresistible and requires your acute attention and respect. It has to drive you to action… especially when you don’t feel like acting.
We often use excuses, disguised as reasons, when we don’t want to do something (often motivated by fear and insecurity). Reasons like “times are hard right now” or “I don’t have time to work my business” or “I have to get a job to make money” seem reasonable and acceptable. But in reality they are saying they are not going to do what it takes because they haven’t committed to their “why.”
You have to decide what is truly important to you. What will truly motivate and drive you to spend the necessary effort to make your business work? Will your “why” inspire you to read books to improve your skills, to attend local meetings and company events, to seek out your mentors for advice, and even to give up some of your free time?
If that sounds like too much work and you get tired just thinking about what it takes to work your business, then you haven’t found your “WHY” yet. Because you should be lit on fire when you think about your “why” and how your business is going to help you get there. You should feel energized and exhilarated by your business. When you are committed, it won’t feel like work or something you must do. It will be something that you are glad to do, that you can’t wait to do, that you’ll give up other things in order to do.
In order for you to make your business a priority and to stick with it through the hard times when you feel like quitting because you aren’t yet seeing the results, you need to discover and devote yourself to your “why.” It needs to be so deep seated that when you begin to doubt what you’re doing, your “why” pulls you through and keeps you going.
So I challenge you to spend some time today to determine if you have a “WHY” and are you passionate about and committed to your “WHY?” If you are questioning if your “why” is powerful enough to carry you through the hard times, then I ask you to find a NEW “why.” Make SURE your “why” is crystal clear to you so that nothing pulls you off course.
